Frequently asked questions

What is a plate heat exchanger?

A stack of thin corrugated plates clamped together. Hot fluid runs through one set of channels and cold fluid through another between them, and the plates transfer heat through their walls.

Why does the order of the plates matter?

Alternating plates and gaskets keep the two fluids in separate channels. If the gasket and plate order is wrong, the hot and cold streams can leak into each other.

Where do the hot and cold flows go?

Hot fluid enters at one end of the stack and leaves at the other, while cold fluid runs in the opposite direction through the neighbouring channels — a counter-flow arrangement.

Is this a real heat exchanger model?

No. It is a heavily simplified teaching diagram, not a buildable or pressure-rated engineering model.

Disclaimer: Diagrams are heavily simplified for educational demonstration only. Real-world systems contain far more variables and complexity. Not for engineering production use. Not financial, political or professional advice.
